Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) is a family of techniques for delivering DC power over twisted-pair cabling along with Ethernet signalling.

Experiments with PoE

We use a Hewlett Packard Procurve 2650 PWR switch for experiments with Power-over-Ethernet.

Freetronics PoE_Regulator_802.3af module provides 7.5VDC using proper IEEE802.3af signalling protocols.

As it turns out, lifting the ADJ pin (pin 10) is difficult and I ended up removing the Ag8112 module off of the Freetronics board. With the ADJ pin open-circuit, the module provides 14.07VDC (at maximum module power). This is easily sufficient for the PicoPS ATX power supply module.
