Installing Linux
The ideapad 100s will only boot from a UEFI-compliant devices, such as a USB storage device. Either hold down the little black button near the power switch when powering on, or press <Func>-F12 during initial start up to get to the boot screen.
It seems, from details gleaned from the web, that it will only boot a 32-bit EFI image.
First try - Debian Jessie
Copy the Jessie 32-bit (i386) netboot image directly to a USB storage device.
Boot ideapad 100s from USB device. Debian installer starts up with splash screen.
Once install option is selected, the keyboard stops working - need to use an external keyboard.
All installed OK, but:
- integrated keyboard still fails to work (even with upgrade to sid), AND
- in multi-user mode (normal), some console suspend process keeps putting the screen to sleep, making system all but unusable.
Second try - Ubuntu 15.10
Tried with Ubuntu Wily (15.10) - download 32-bit ISO of desktop installer (ubuntu-15.10-i386).
Need to follow instructions
UEFI
Added the following to grub.cfg:
search.fs_uuid 17189e32-f1fc-48a7-ba15-9084a1f05dbb root hd0,gpt3 set prefix=($root)'/boot/grub' configfile $prefix/grub.cfg
WiFi
WiFi device is the Realtek RTL8723BS which is interfaced via an SDIO channel, and so doesn't appear in lspci or lsusb.
