PHouse Networking is at various layers.

Layer 1 - cabling

Patch-panel

The 20-way "patch panel" for the Cat 5E structured cabling is located in the linen closet, near the top shelf.

The patch panel started life as a 200mm x 200mm access panel from Bunnings Hardware, with 20 x 25mm square cut-outs for...

First the access door was removed from it's frame by drilling out the two 5mm "Pop-rivets" used as hinges, to be replaced by two 5mm bolts and nuts.

Then the square holes were located using 25mm masking tape laid out in 4 rows of 6, with the end two of the middle two rows missing to allow for the "locking" mechanism.

The cut-outs were made using a "Dremel-style" tool with a cutting disk (which was cheaper, but not as neat, as purchasing a 25mm square punch-and-die kit).

The door was sprayed bright blue to complete the process.

The door frame will be located in the plasterboard inside the linen closet, with the Cat 5E cables conduited up to the top plate into the ceiling space.

Wireless networking

PHouse Server has hostapd installed to support an external Digitech (Jaycar Electronics YN8306 "High Power N" USB Wi-Fi adaptor, to be located in the corridor ceiling space outside the linen closet.
